The artists at BROKEN ROCK DESIGN
create original stone house numbers
hand sculptured in light relief to
resemble the rock art petroglyphs
scattered across the world. Petrogyphs,
from the Greek words petro for "rock"
and glyph for "carving", have been used
for thousands of years to identify places
and events. Petroglyphs are created
when a patina that formed over many
years is removed by pecking or abrading
it away from the base stone. This leaves
base rock exposed that is a different
color and texture from the patina. The
artists create the Homestone patina by
layering the base stone with a colored
sealer. This gives them control over the
color of the patina and allows more
dramatic variations than occur in nature
and it is created in hours rather than
thousands of years. After the patina is
removed color can be added to the
pecked areas to enhanced the contrast.
This creates piece of art that will be
unique to your business or home.
